Discovering pathways to abate and recover from the opioid crisis in Central Appalachia through community-engaged research.
ORCCA seeks to accelerate collaborative, highly translational opioid treatment and prevention research by converging scientific, clinical, and community capacity in central Appalachia. ORCCA will generate systematic research partnership through its unique engagement of individual and organizational partners, including health care systems, research institutions, community-based organizations, and individual members.
Launched in Spring 2019, the Opioid Research Consortium of Central Appalachia (ORCCA) was formed because we believe that collaborative, community-engaged research will discover effective solutions, faster.
The ORCCA supports a multi-stakeholder, community-engaged research agenda that serves as the umbrella for specific research networks identified through our member engagement. Learn More
The first such network, Studies to Advance Recovery Support (STARS), began in July 2020 through a 5-year NIH grant focused on developing a collaborative, interprofessional network to facilitate and expedite high-priority research.
In particular, the STARS research network specializes in peer recovery support services (PRSS) for individuals who received or are being maintained on medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD). Learn More
